Abstract

The methodologies of research and textual verification remain the fundamental cornerstone upon which the edifice of human knowledge rests, and the methodological safeguard that protects the scientific heritage from the perils of improvisation and superficiality. Within this solid epistemological context, the recently published book by Dr. Muhammad Khalīl al-Zarrūq — "The Craft of Scientific Research and the Critical Editing of Arabic Texts" — stands as a profoundly significant methodological document. It harmoniously combines the authenticity of traditional theoretical frameworks with the flexibility of contemporary application, drawing upon an academic expertise that spans three decades in the depths of Arab-Islamic heritage and its instruction in faculties of Islamic jurisprudence (Sharīʿah) and fatwa issuance.
