Abstract

: The camel, the ship of journeys. known to North Africans relatively late, became associated with many regions in Libya. Its name later became linked to numerous areas in Libyan territories. It is mentioned that the camel caravans of traders and pilgrims did not converge in a single group during their travels until they reached a specific region in Libya. This was due to the abundance of camels and the diverse markets found there. One of the well-known weekly markets in the Libyan markets is the "Al-Amrous" market in Tripoli, in addition to the markets of Ghadames, Benghazi, and their surrounding desert areas. Camel breeding was once prevalent in the Libyan deserts and has evolved into a distinct profession with its own qualifications and regulations, imparting a cultural and artistic touch to the craft. The Libyan camel was the capital and essential element in its practice, given its notable endurance, patience in thirst and carrying heavy loads. So much so that people used to say in proverbs and advice for those relying on successful and easy travel at that time: "A Tripolitan camel and an Egyptian water container". This research paper aims to reaffirm the significant historical role played by the "Libyan camel" and examine the most crucial historical milestones in the development of Libyan heritage in the realm of camel care and related aspects. It seeks to elucidate the cultural and societal aspects linked to the dynamics of this heritage, ultimately appreciating this distinctive heritage and attempting to simulate its historical importance in the present and future.
